Yahoo user chat rooms closed…

h1 Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

Couple of times I’ll go into the yahoo chats and see what is up. Recently the user created [tag]chat rooms[/tag] have been down. This action was probably because of a report on a TV station about chat rooms geared to pedophilia. I feel it is good for them to pay more attention in this area. They let things go for way too long. I remember noticing those chat rooms many years ago when my nieces were looking to chat on the internet. I’m glad the sponsors finally pulled the plug but they should have checked where their ads were in the first place.

The only sad thing about this is other non sexual chat rooms were shut down also. It’s been over a week now and haven’t seen any changed yet. Hope they will bring the chat rooms back. Was a good place to chat with others instead of going through [tag]IRC[/tag]. IRC has been around for years, ever since the internet was born. It’s a good chat interface but not a lot of every day folks find it. When the MSN chat rooms closed a couple of years ago, everyone went to the yahoo rooms. They are perfect because it’s on the Yahoo messenger. Easy to access. That was the problem because it allowed children easy access and the predators came as well. Yahoo should just have a couple people checking rooms all the time. People who create bad rooms can get banned. It’s easy. I use to help out on a family oriented board and had to be always aware of who is who. I’m sure Yahoo can hire some people to check the room names at least.

Hollywood stop with the remakes

h1 Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

I am quite tired of hearing about all the remakes coming out. Leave the original films as is, please!! Especially “[tag]Willy Wonka[/tag]“. That movie is fantastic as is. Doesn’t need to be remade as “[tag]Charlie and the Chocolate Factory[/tag]“. My nieces and nephews still love that movie. Why remake it? If it was in black and white then it might be OK to remake a movie. But what is wrong with the original? Just because [tag]Johnny Depp[/tag] wants to make it? Or what? I don’t understand. I still liked the originals of the remade movies I have seen.

I heard they are going to remake “[tag]The Fog[/tag]“ also. I did show my nephew this movie and he just laughed. A remake might make it scarier for the current generation, But Why remake something when you can retell a new story? So many books are out now which would make great movies. There is always someone with a new look on a subject. Don’t keep going back to what worked in the past hoping it will work now. The first “[tag]Amityville Horror[/tag]“ is so much superior to the new one. I can deal with sequels but still would rather have fresh new stories to watch.

A Science blog

h1 Friday, June 17th, 2005

I love everything about science! I used to watch the wizards world and the science guy on tv. I followed some of the experiements and had a fun time doing them. Here’s a webpage about science and experiments one can do themselves. This guy also has his own blog where he talks about some interesting stuff too. I always think trying something out really teaches more than just reading about it. Good place for students who are having problems with science. Found some fascinating stuff on this site and will try some when I have some time. I’ve really gotten to the point where there isn’t a subject that someone hasn’t blogged about.

A dalek stolen!

h1 Saturday, June 11th, 2005

Like I have mentioned before, I am a big fan of [tag]Dr. Who[/tag]. While I was wandering the news sites, I found this article about a stolen [tag]dalek[/tag]! Find it really funny the quote:

A spokesman said: “There may be a black market out there for [tag]Daleks[/tag] – but it’s still a strange thing to steal.”

Now someone has sent back the plunger with a ransom note. They want to talk to the Doctor. Here’s the article about the ransom note. The other funny thing is that a previous actor who played the doctor has been in contact and might be sending a note back to the dalek kidnappers.

Disposable emails?

h1 Friday, June 10th, 2005

Lot of places on the internet want you to sign up with an email address. There are far too many places that use the email address as a way to spam! You’ll find all the details in their TOS so that’s how they get away with it. I do understand why an email adress is important because it gives the perception that there is an actual human being signing up. But I actually got fed up getting so much [tag]spam[/tag] so I started to look for other ways of dealing with this problem. There are places on the internet called disposable emails.
One such place is called Spambob.com. I used them a while ago signing up to a newspaper from another state. I just recently found Spamgourmet.com and find them very useful. You can have email addresses that you can just forget about it after using it once or you can keep it as your email for spam. It’s a great idea and wanted to share it with everyone. Another site is KasMail.com and Spamex.com which actually has a browser install also.
Of course you can always use the regular free email services on the internet like yahoo.com, gmail.google.com, and hotmail.com. But the [tag]disposable email[/tag] are a lot easier to use for signing up to something you just want to use for a day or so.

Doctor who and Reality TV

h1 Thursday, June 9th, 2005

Now I’m a big fan of [tag]reality TV[/tag]. So much that I look around for other reality TV show from other countries. Big Brother is one of my favorites to watch. Love watching how people try to get along with each other and how it all ends up. I’ve been watching the UK version for weeks now and loving the arguments and mischief they get into!
I am also a fan of Doctor Who. I watched it when I was young in the 80’s on PBS stations. The only way I was able to watch them in U.S. Now [tag]Doctor who[/tag] has came back in 2005. I am watching it the only way I can. Downloading it from places that provide it on the internet. I would rather have it available in the united states but no such luck. I’d even be willing to pay bbc a couple of bucks to watch each episode. But no such option. What am I supposed to do? I have sent requests to scifi.com and bbc america with no luck yet. I will have to do what I am doing now until I have the option of getting it the legal way.
Both of these worlds will be intermingling next week with doctor who visiting a [tag]Big brother[/tag] show in the future on a space station of some sort. I am very excited about this and hope it will be a fun show. Doctor who against Big Brother is an interesting concept. Also in the previews we get a glimpse of [tag]daleks[/tag]! They return in a massive display of power.

Dinosaur fossil bones give interesting finds!

h1 Sunday, June 5th, 2005

I found an article which was very interesting to me. It was about a fossil with tissue in a dinosaur bones. They found out the sex of the [tag]dinosaur[/tag] which was female and was pregnant. They also have more evidence that dinosaurs have connections with living day birds. I am really interested in finding out more about this and see what this finding can tell us about life and death.

I also found another blogger, by Tdavid, mentioning a find from a 40,000 year old cave bear.

Ok, well, not quite [tag]Jurassic Park[/tag] yet, but impressively scientists have made progress in connecting the DNA sequence of a cave bear that died 40,000 years ago.

This does make me think about Jurassic Park type of experiment. Guess we will have to wait and see what the future will give. On one hand I’d love to know more about the past animals but on the other side these animals were instinct for a reason.
